As per a research report released by CITIC Construction Investment Securities, the optical fiber preform and optical fiber sectors are currently riding a wave of expansion. This year, the market has witnessed a notable uptick in optical fiber prices, coupled with enhanced returns on investment. This favorable market environment has spurred several companies, including Hengtong Optic-Electric, Far East Smarter Energy, Tongding Interconnection Information, Hoshine Silicon Industry, and Han's Laser, to embark on ambitious plans for expanding their optical fiber preform production capacities.

The report highlights that the burgeoning development of AI technology has significantly propelled the demand for optical fibers. Consequently, the industry is grappling with a supply shortage at present. Despite the fact that numerous companies are gearing up to expand their production, it's worth noting that the majority of them possess limited experience in the manufacturing of optical fiber preforms. Therefore, the feasibility of these expansion plans materializing as scheduled remains uncertain.

Furthermore, the bulk of the new production capacity is projected to come online in the latter half of next year or even beyond. As a result, its impact on the industry's supply and demand dynamics will be relatively muted in the short term, specifically for this year and the next. Moreover, given the likelihood of sustained growth in AI demand, there is little reason to harbor excessive concerns about supply and demand imbalances in the near future.
