Microsoft is progressively rolling back its stringent requirements for mandatory linking to Microsoft Accounts (MSAs). In the past, users were compelled to possess an MSA to fully leverage the capabilities of Windows 11, Bing, earn Microsoft Rewards points, and utilize the synchronization features in Edge. However, the landscape is changing as the Microsoft Edge browser is set to introduce support for signing in with Google accounts from July onwards. This move will empower users to synchronize their browser data, including bookmarks and passwords, without the necessity of having an MSA. Concurrently, there are divergent viewpoints within Microsoft concerning the obligatory account linking policy, with indications pointing towards a potential shift away from enforcing such mandates.
