On June 12, 2026, SpaceX, marking the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history, made its official debut on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol SPCX. The IPO was priced at $135 per share, successfully raising a staggering $75 billion. On its first day of trading, the stock soared by 29%, closing at $174 per share. However, this positive sentiment didn't extend to the broader U.S. space sector stocks, which experienced a sharp decline. Virgin Galactic's shares plummeted by over 23%, AST SpaceMobile dropped by more than 10%, Redwire fell by over 9%, EchoStar Communications declined by over 8%, and Rocket Lab slipped by over 7%.

In terms of financials, SpaceX reported a full-year revenue of $18.67 billion for 2025, representing a 33% year-on-year increase. For the first quarter of 2026, the company's revenue reached $4.69 billion, up 15% from the same period last year. Despite these impressive revenue figures, SpaceX has been operating at a loss for an extended period, with a net loss of $4.28 billion recorded in the first quarter of 2026. Nevertheless, the company boasts a well-defined business strategy, with its satellite internet business, Starlink, serving as the cornerstone of its revenue and the sole profitable segment.

In a strategic move earlier this year, in February, SpaceX merged with artificial intelligence (AI) enterprise xAI, signaling a deep dive into the AI sector. This expansion is reflected in its capital expenditure, which reached a whopping $10.1 billion in the first quarter of 2026, with $7.7 billion earmarked for AI-related investments. Following the IPO, founder Elon Musk will retain over 82% of the voting rights, and his personal wealth is poised for substantial growth, potentially catapulting him to the status of the world's first trillionaire.
