Recently, the research team vx-underground, which asserts itself as the holder of the world's most extensive collection of malware source code, made an announcement on the social platform X. They revealed that the total volume of malware data in their possession currently stands at around 30 terabytes (TB). In response, Bernardo Quintero, the founder of VirusTotal—an online multi-engine virus scanning service—stated that the cumulative malware samples submitted by users to VirusTotal over the years have amassed to approximately 31 petabytes (PB). To put things into perspective, 1PB is roughly equivalent to 1000TB. The sheer scale of these datasets far surpasses what the average user can fathom.
