Microsoft's senior engineer, David Fowler, took to social media to reveal that Windows 11 is making significant strides in implementing native apps, steadily substituting current applications with their native counterparts. Earlier, Rudy Huyn, the mastermind behind the architecture of Microsoft Store and File Explorer, affirmed that Microsoft is set on crafting 100% native apps for Windows 11 and has put together a dedicated new team for this endeavor. This strategic shift is designed to tackle prevalent issues in Windows 11, notably the sluggish startup times and excessive memory usage stemming from the reliance on web technologies for app development. Microsoft has already commenced the process of transitioning some pivotal user experiences from web-based components to native technologies. A prime example is the Start menu, which is being revamped from React-based components to the WinUI framework. The Native AOT compilation technology integrated into .NET 10 plays a pivotal role in facilitating this transition, paving the way for quicker app startups and more efficient memory utilization. While Microsoft has yet to unveil a precise timeline or the full extent of this migration, remarks from several senior engineers suggest that the 'de-webification' of Windows 11 is now well into a substantive phase of progress.
