On March 31, at the 14th Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition, Huang Feng, President of Chugn Neng New Energy, offered insights into the market outlook for energy storage cells over the next two years. He forecasted that between 2026 and 2027, the market for energy storage cells will experience a notable supply-demand imbalance, with supply-demand dynamics emerging as a critical determinant of market conditions. Huang highlighted that China currently dominates the global market, accounting for over 90% of both production and sales of energy storage cells. By 2025, China’s production and sales are projected to reach approximately 600 gigawatt-hours. However, a supply shortage has already surfaced in the latter half of the year, with actual production capacity hovering just above 500 gigawatt-hours. Based on an industry-average growth rate of 35%, demand for energy storage cells is expected to surge to between 800 and 850 gigawatt-hours this year, continuing to exert significant pressure on the market.
