On March 30, 2026, the Lijian-2 Yao-1 carrier rocket, developed by CAS Space, embarked on a successful maiden voyage. Yang Haoliang, the lead commander of the Lijian-2 project, revealed that the rocket’s design is inspired by the principles of automotive automated production lines and modular development, facilitating an impressive annual launch capacity of 20 missions. Presently, the cost per kilogram for a single, non-recoverable launch of the Lijian-2 stands at RMB 30,000, roughly equivalent to the cost incurred by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 in its recoverable configuration. However, with the anticipated implementation of recovery capabilities in subsequent launches, the cost is projected to plummet to merely half of SpaceX’s current expenditure.
