These cybercriminals implanted harmful code within the extension. Security experts are strongly advising users to promptly uninstall it. Although Google removed the extension earlier this month, there is a possibility that it had already covertly modified the browser behavior of a substantial number of users prior to its removal. Investigations have unveiled that the group responsible for this attack is also connected to numerous other hijacked Chrome and Edge extensions. By seizing control of trusted extensions, attackers implant malicious code to gather user browsing data and manipulate shopping links for financial gain. This incident once again underscores the security vulnerabilities inherent in the browser extension ecosystem.
