On March 13, 2026, Microsoft announced the addition of a custom user folder name feature in the latest preview versions of Windows 11 for the Dev Channel and Beta Channel. Previously, the system automatically generated folder names based on the Microsoft account email or profile name, often resulting in issues such as excessively long names, truncation, or the inclusion of special characters. The new feature allows users, during the initial setup phase on the device naming page, to input a compliant name (supporting letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores) by checking the 'Show User Folder Name' option. If this step is skipped, the default naming convention will be used. This move aims to enhance the initial setup experience and practicality.
