China is confronting a formidable challenge due to its aging population. The number of elderly individuals has surged to 310 million, accompanied by a pronounced scarcity of caregivers. The market potential for elderly care robots is immense, with estimates soaring into the trillions of yuan, offering a promising solution to mitigate the labor shortage. Nevertheless, the industry is still in its nascent stages and grapples with obstacles such as inadequate policy coordination. NPC Deputy Ge Minghua puts forth the following recommendations: Enhance top-level planning by formulating a National Action Plan for the Development of the Elderly Care Robot Industry; address core technological hurdles through collaborative research endeavors in pertinent fields and incentivize teams that accomplish mass production and deployment; broaden application scenarios by investigating the integration of compliant intelligent care devices into medical insurance reimbursements and fostering the development of complementary products by commercial insurance firms, alongside pilot initiatives.
