The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved TerraPower's Natrium fourth-generation nuclear demonstration reactor to enter the nuclear island construction phase. This marks the first construction permit issued for a new nuclear reactor in the U.S. in a decade, signifying a key milestone in the revival of 21st-century civil nuclear power in the country. The Natrium project utilizes sodium-cooled fast reactor technology, equipped with a molten salt energy storage system, and is expected to become operational by 2030. It will provide stable electricity for Wyoming while driving innovation and commercialization of nuclear power technologies.
