As reported by CCTV News, on February 14, China’s inaugural 15,000-tonne methanol-exclusive river-to-sea vessel, the Chuangxin 19, officially commenced its maiden voyage from Jiangsu Qinfeng Shipyard’s dock, bound for Ningbo Zhoushan Port. This milestone signifies a pivotal advancement in the commercial deployment of methanol fuel within China’s maritime industry. The vessel’s domestically engineered methanol-fueled engine utilizes cutting-edge in-cylinder direct injection technology, delivering a rated power output of 1,600 kW and achieving a methanol substitution rate surpassing 90%. By adopting green methanol, the ship can slash carbon dioxide emissions by over 90%, nitrogen oxide emissions by 60%, and sulfur oxide emissions by 99%. This batch includes five vessels in total, with the remaining four slated for sequential commissioning prior to May 2026.
