On February 4th, foreign media outlets reported that Alphabet (GOOG.O) is gearing up for a substantial expansion of its operations in India. The tech giant is considering renting millions of square feet of additional office space in Bangalore, India's renowned tech hub. According to individuals with inside knowledge of the situation, Google's parent company has already secured an office building in Embassy TechVillage and obtained the option to purchase two more buildings. Embassy TechVillage is a development situated within the Whitefield tech corridor, encompassing a vast area of 2.4 million square feet.
The first building is slated to welcome employees in the upcoming months, while the construction of the remaining two buildings is expected to be finalized next year. Sources revealed that if Alphabet decides to utilize all the available office space, the campus could potentially house up to 20,000 new employees. This move could more than double the company's current operational scale in India. Presently, Alphabet employs roughly 14,000 individuals in India, out of a global workforce that numbers around 190,000.
