On Friday, Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation declared its intention to purchase U.S. shale gas assets at a cost of $7.53 billion (inclusive of debt), a strategic move designed to solidify its foothold in the U.S. energy sector. The assets earmarked for acquisition are currently under the ownership of Aethon Energy Management, spanning regions in Texas and Louisiana. This transaction encompasses $5.2 billion in equity and an additional $2.33 billion in debt. Mitsubishi Corporation is poised to leverage the escalating electricity needs stemming from data centers and manufacturing operations, along with the burgeoning prospects in liquefied natural gas exports, by ramping up its natural gas business endeavors in the United States.
