On January 16th, the pouring of concrete for the nuclear island of Unit 1 at the China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) Jiangsu Xuwei Nuclear Heating and Power Plant got underway. This event signifies that the world's inaugural project, which integrates a "Hualong One" pressurized water reactor with a high-temperature gas-cooled reactor for comprehensive nuclear energy utilization, has officially entered its main construction phase. As the first large-scale project worldwide to couple nuclear energy with the petrochemical industry, this initiative will facilitate energy efficiency synergy between nuclear power plants and the petrochemical sector. It will open up new avenues for nuclear energy applications and propel China's nuclear energy sector towards a transformation from primarily electricity generation to a more diversified energy supply.
