U.S. online brokerage Robinhood Markets announced on Sunday that it will acquire Indonesian brokerage firm Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed digital asset trader Pedagang Aset Kripto, officially entering Southeast Asia's major cryptocurrency hub. Indonesia, one of the world's leading nations in cryptocurrency adoption, driven by regulatory support and a young, tech-savvy population, has become a key target for U.S. companies' Asian expansion. The country boasts over 19 million capital market investors and 17 million cryptocurrency traders. The acquisition will help Robinhood meet local regulatory requirements and accelerate its stock and digital asset operations. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2026, with financial terms undisclosed. Peter Tanuri, the major shareholder of the two Indonesian companies, will serve as a strategic advisor to Robinhood.
