A research team, led by Professors Pan Jianwei, Lu Chaoyang, and Chen Mingcheng from the University of Science and Technology of China, has, for the first time, successfully conducted the 'recoil slit' quantum interference thought experiment. This experiment, originally proposed during the historic 1927 debate between Einstein and Bohr, was realized using quantum ground-state single atoms captured by optical tweezers. In the experiment, researchers observed a gradual alteration in interference contrast as atomic momentum was adjusted, thereby confirming the principle of complementarity at the Heisenberg limit. Furthermore, the study illustrated the seamless transition from quantum to classical behavior. The pertinent findings were published on December 3rd in the esteemed international academic journal Physical Review Letters.
