Teresa Ribera, the EU’s competition policy chief, announced that regulators are currently reviewing Google’s “substantive” proposals designed to address concerns over possible monopolistic behavior in its advertising technology sector. Google had previously faced nearly €3 billion in fines related to these issues. Ribera acknowledged Google’s efforts but pointed out that the proposals do not entirely fulfill all of the regulator’s prior demands, particularly regarding the divestiture of certain assets. Nonetheless, she emphasized that Google has demonstrated a more serious commitment by offering meaningful improvements and recommendations. Earlier, EU regulators had levied a €2.95 billion penalty on Google and mandated that it cease prioritizing its own advertising technology services over competitors.
