Bloomberg reports that Apple is set to introduce a budget-friendly Mac laptop in the first half of 2026, specifically targeting the entry-level segment of the market. This innovative new laptop will be equipped with an iPhone processor, boast a basic LCD display, and feature a screen size marginally smaller than the current 13.6-inch MacBook Air. Priced significantly below the $1,000 mark, it will be on par with the cost of an entry-level iPad bundled with a Magic Keyboard Folio (approximately $600). The product is strategically designed to cater to students, businesses, and casual users, with the aim of drawing in consumers who currently use Chromebooks and entry-level Windows PCs, as well as those who have considered purchasing an iPad but ultimately prefer the traditional laptop experience. Codenamed J700, the device is currently undergoing rigorous testing within Apple and has already entered the early production phase with its overseas suppliers. Internal tests have revealed that the performance of this smartphone chip actually exceeds that of the Mac-specific M1 chip, which was used in laptops a few years ago.
