Xinhua News Agency, Los Angeles, October 20 - On the 20th, Sean Duffy, the acting head of NASA, announced that owing to the delays in SpaceX's development of the lunar lander for the 'Artemis 3' manned lunar landing mission, NASA intends to reopen the bidding process for the contract. This move will enable other U.S. companies to vie for the opportunity. The 'Manned Landing System' serves as a pivotal element of the mission, tasked with the crucial role of ferrying astronauts between lunar orbit and the moon's surface. In April 2021, SpaceX secured a contract valued at around $2.9 billion for the development and production of the lunar lander. However, the progress has been slower than anticipated, leading NASA to make the decision to reopen the bidding.
