As high-energy-density energy storage technologies experience rapid growth, lithium metal batteries have emerged as prime contenders for the next generation of electrochemical energy storage systems, thanks to their exceptionally high theoretical specific capacity. Nevertheless, problems like high flammability, unstable interfaces, and dendrite formation in liquid electrolytes pose significant obstacles to the safety and cycle longevity of lithium metal batteries. To tackle these issues, researchers are channeling their efforts into developing solid-state electrolytes, aiming to bolster the safety and extend the cycle life of lithium metal batteries. Take, for instance, the innovative work of Professor Xu Youlong's team at Xi'an Jiaotong University. They have introduced a fluorinated amide-based deep eutectic gel polymer electrolyte. This electrolyte seamlessly integrates high safety, rapid ion transport capabilities, and a broad voltage stability range, thereby markedly enhancing the performance of lithium metal batteries.
