Shanghai organized a municipal government press briefing to unveil the "Several Measures for Expediting the Advancement of Pioneering Technological Innovation and Fostering Future Industries." Qu Wei, the Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, highlighted that Shanghai will progress in three distinct phases—short-term, mid-term, and long-term—spanning six key sectors, one of which is future manufacturing. This strategic move encompasses nurturing fields like cell and gene therapy, fostering the growth of areas such as silicon photonics, and implementing avant-garde sectors like quantum technology, all with well-defined support priorities at every stage.
