Today (the 26th), the Innovation and Technology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government unveiled the "Support Program for Pioneering Tech Research". Eligible universities have until November 25 to submit their applications. This program adopts a matching-fund approach to provide financial support to the eight universities funded by the University Grants Committee. Its primary goals are to draw leading international researchers to Hong Kong and facilitate the acquisition of essential equipment for pioneering tech research endeavors. Successful applicants can secure funding ranging from HK$100 million to HK$300 million for each project. The evaluation will hinge on several key factors: the academic accolades of the principal investigators, their active participation in the research initiatives, as well as the research projects' excellence, ingenuity, and potential for groundbreaking scientific advancements in the realm of pioneering technology.
