Approximately three months prior, Microsoft published a blog post announcing that the Secure Boot certificates it issued back in 2011 are set to expire in June and October 2026. Initially, these certificates were employed for Windows 8. Presently, they are also valid for supported systems, including Windows 10, the Windows 10 LTSB/LTSC series, Windows 11, the Windows 11 LTSC series, and Windows Server 2012 through 2025.
Failure to update these certificates could result in the system being unable to boot correctly. Over the next several months, Microsoft plans to distribute new certificates via cumulative updates. Users must make sure their systems are connected to the internet and promptly install these updates. For systems that are either offline or have updates disabled, manual deployment of the new certificates will be necessary. Moreover, Microsoft will supply the essential certificates for Linux systems that have a dual - boot setup with Windows. However, it will not be updating certificates for macOS.
