Google has been hit with a record fine of €325 million by France's data protection agency, the CNIL, for violating internet cookie regulations. The tech giant was found to have displayed ads in Gmail emails without consent from French users and implanted cookies upon account creation. France alleges that this practice affected 74 million Google accounts and 53 million email accounts, constituting a clear breach of relevant laws. In response, Google stated that it is currently reviewing the penalty decision.
