Canonical has made an announcement that Ubuntu 25.10 will switch the default sudo utility to sudo-rs, which is developed in Rust. This shift has already been incorporated into the daily builds of Ubuntu 25.10 and is set to be fully implemented in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. To ease the transition and minimize risks, the original sudo package will continue to be available in the system, enabling users to revert swiftly through specific commands. Furthermore, Ubuntu 25.10 introduces a range of new features, such as the GNOME 49 desktop environment, Wayland display server, and TPM-based full-disk encryption, all aimed at bolstering system stability and security.
