A recent study, known as the REBOOT trial, led by Valentin Fuster and Borja Ibáñez, involved 8,505 patients across 109 hospitals in Spain and Italy. The results revealed that beta-blockers offer no clinical benefit to patients with non-complex myocardial infarction and preserved heart function. Alarmingly, these drugs may even elevate the risk of death, heart disease recurrence, or hospitalization due to heart failure, particularly among female patients. The study showed no notable difference in major cardiovascular events between patients who took beta-blockers and those who did not. Currently, over 80% of patients with non-complex myocardial infarction are prescribed these drugs upon discharge. However, this groundbreaking finding has the potential to reshape global clinical practices and treatment guidelines.
