On August 26, Meituan hosted an open day in Beijing dedicated to algorithm consultation and co-governance with riders. During the event, the head of rider experience operations at Meituan revealed that the company plans to completely eliminate overtime fines for its crowdsourced riders by the end of 2025. As an interim measure, starting in December 2024, Meituan will introduce a "Safety Card" pilot program in Quanzhou, replacing the previous fine system with a points-based system that deducts points for overtime and awards points for punctuality. This penalty exemption mechanism has already been tested in 22 cities as of August.
