A recent study conducted by the University of Hong Kong and published in Nature Climate Change delved into 15 years of medical records from 24,922 Taiwanese adults, with an average biological age of 46.3 years. The research revealed that chronic exposure to extreme heatwaves can expedite organ aging and elevate health risks. Notably, manual laborers, rural inhabitants, and individuals lacking adequate air conditioning are more prone to these adverse effects. Specifically, for every 1.3°C rise in heatwave intensity, the average physiological age may increase by 0.023 to 0.031 years.
