The State Administration for Market Regulation has initiated a pilot project aimed at coding and verifying the quality and safety of key products sold online. This initiative encompasses ten product categories, including safety helmets, electric bicycles, and gas stoves. Central to this project is the 'one code traceability' system, which is being adopted by ten e-commerce platforms, such as Taobao, Kuaishou, and Pinduoduo. E-commerce platforms are responsible for reviewing the product coding information, while manufacturers are required to code products from the source to ensure the authenticity and completeness of the data. Market supervision authorities nationwide will intensify oversight and inspection, recall defective products, and investigate and address any illegal activities in accordance with the law. Currently, e-commerce platforms are actively facilitating technical integrations and merchant participation, with some coded products set to become available for purchase soon.
