On August 21, Musk shared on social media that SpaceX is set to generate approximately $1 billion in revenue from NASA this year, constituting roughly 7% of its overall income. This revenue stream encompasses astronaut and cargo transportation to the International Space Station, launches of scientific research satellites, and certain lunar return missions. Notably, all these contracts were awarded to SpaceX through a competitive bidding process. Musk emphasized that in the absence of SpaceX, the government would incur higher costs and face challenges in finding viable alternatives, particularly for astronaut transportation, while also affirming that no special subsidies were involved.
