In a historic milestone, China's total electricity consumption surpassed the 1 trillion kWh mark for the first time in July, reaching 1.02 trillion kWh, marking an 8.6% year-on-year growth. This achievement is unparalleled globally. The National Energy Administration released this data today, highlighting that this level of consumption is equivalent to the annual electricity usage of ASEAN nations and represents a doubling compared to a decade ago. The confluence of multiple heatwaves and a steady-to-positive trend in industrial production has fueled the rapid surge in electricity demand. Nationwide, power loads repeatedly attained new peaks in July, with household electricity consumption reaching 203.9 billion kWh, a significant 18.0% increase year-on-year. Notably, provinces such as Henan, Shaanxi, and Shandong witnessed household electricity consumption jumps of over 30% compared to the previous year. Furthermore, July saw a notable increase in the proportion of new energy power generation, with wind, solar, and biomass power generation experiencing rapid growth, collectively accounting for nearly a quarter of the total electricity generated. This development underscores the acceleration of China's transition towards green energy.
