China has achieved a significant milestone with the full completion of the Helan Mountain Tunnel, part of the Yinba Branch of the Baoyin High-speed Railway. This groundbreaking tunnel, stretching an impressive 8,792 meters, marks the first time a railway has traversed Helan Mountain. Nestled at the border between Alxa Left Banner in Inner Mongolia and Yinchuan in Ningxia, the tunnel crosses through numerous ecologically sensitive zones, classifying it as a high-risk Grade I project with considerable construction challenges.
The Baoyin High-speed Railway forms a crucial segment of China's expansive "Eight Horizontal and Eight Vertical" high-speed railway network. The Yinba Branch, with its main line spanning approximately 111 kilometers, plays a pivotal role in this network. The completion of the Helan Mountain Tunnel holds immense significance, as it greatly enhances the railway network's layout in both Ningxia and Inner Mongolia, further solidifying China's transportation infrastructure.
