On August 15, 2025, Sudan's Ariyab Mining Company issued a statement revealing that a devastating collapse occurred at the Kaloyis gold mine, located in the Red Sea State in northeastern Sudan and operated by the company. This tragic incident led to the death of four miners, the injury of eight others, and left numerous individuals missing. According to the statement, some miners had illegally entered the mine without permission at the time of the collapse. Rescue teams are currently engaged in an ongoing search for the missing miners within the mine's confines.

The mining company emphasized that the geological conditions at the Kaloyis gold mine are exceptionally complex, and unauthorized entry into the mining area poses a grave risk to life. The company strongly urged relevant personnel to refrain from engaging in illegal mining activities. Sudan stands as one of Africa's leading gold producers; however, safety accidents resulting from traditional mining methods remain a persistent issue.
