Apple has announced the reinstatement of the blood oxygen monitoring feature for the US versions of the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2, effective through a forthcoming software update. However, this feature has undergone a significant "redesign." Post-update, the Apple Watch will collect blood oxygen data, which will then be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone. Users can conveniently access these results within the Health app on their iPhone. This development aims to navigate around an import ban imposed by the US International Trade Commission, stemming from a patent dispute between Apple and medical device manufacturer Masimo. It's important to note that the revamped feature will exclusively be available for affected models sold after January 17, 2024.
