Notably, US data centers will witness a significant uptick in power consumption, potentially surpassing that of energy-intensive manufacturing sectors. Furthermore, the energy consumption associated with the production of AI chips is escalating, to the point where it could rival Ireland's total electricity usage. However, it's worth noting that the lifecycle energy consumption of these chips remains lower than that during their operational phase. The International Energy Agency (IEA) highlights that while AI-optimized systems offer some potential for emission reductions, additional measures are imperative to effectively tackle climate change.
