Competition in the artificial intelligence sector is heating up. Data center operator TeraWulf has announced a credit support agreement with Google to provide financing guarantees for a large data center project in Kentucky leased by AI company Anthropic. Anthropic previously signed a 20-year lease for the project, valued at approximately $19 billion in total. Google's credit support includes risk hedging and rights protection clauses: should Anthropic default on rent or enter bankruptcy proceedings, Google may either take over the lease directly or pay a termination fee to acquire equity in the project company. The credit support may be terminated once Anthropic or its guaranteed affiliates obtain and maintain an investment-grade rating for at least three months. The data center campus has a total computing capacity of approximately 401 megawatts, enough to support large-scale training and inference of frontier AI models. The first batch of facilities is expected to come online in the second half of 2027 to meet the AI industry's high-performance computing needs.
