November 2 — OpenAI plans to introduce a new name for its data centers. A company spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that the new designation will be "compute parks." According to the spokesperson, "compute parks" more accurately reflects the scale and role of the infrastructure the company is building for AI—long-term investments in compute, energy infrastructure, and skilled labor. Although data centers have drawn considerable criticism, previous efforts to improve their image have largely fallen flat, and data centers have become a key issue of voter concern in the midterm elections. Major builders such as Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft have pledged millions of dollars to surrounding communities and schools, but OpenAI hopes to turn public opinion around through a thorough "rebranding."
