On Sunday, Eastern Time, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on the X platform that SpaceX had completed a $40 billion debt financing round, with the funds to be used for GPU procurement. Musk stated that the current financing environment in the debt market is significantly polarized, making it difficult for companies without substantial revenue streams independent of AI data centers to secure funding. He predicted that new cloud vendors will face large-scale consolidation and closures. Subsequently, Musk clarified that SpaceX would not acquire any new cloud vendors, deeming such a move pointless. Unlike large comprehensive cloud vendors covering multiple industries, new cloud vendors such as Nebius and CoreWeave primarily target tech clients, offering computing resources specifically designed for AI. Currently, the market has begun to take a bearish view on new U.S. cloud and data center companies, concerned that their model of relying on debt to expand AI computing capacity is unsustainable, thereby triggering a sell-off in the sector.
