Microsoft recently reminded IT administrators and enterprise users that some older Windows system devices will lose access to Windows Update services and be unable to receive security patches and system updates if they do not complete certificate updates by 2027. This update affects client computers, workstations, and server products, but enterprise devices that receive updates through WSUS will not be impacted. Specifically, Windows 11 25H2 and later versions already have the new certificate built-in and require no action; Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 need to install the September 2025 security update or a later version before June 19, 2027; other supported versions of Windows 11, Windows Server 2022, and Windows 10 need to install the July 2026 security update or a later version before June 19, 2027; Windows 10 Enterprise 2019 LTSC, Windows Server 2019, and Windows Server 2016 have an earlier deadline and need to complete the installation of the July 2026 security update before May 17, 2027. Windows versions that are no longer supported will directly lose access to updates. Microsoft recommends that IT administrators push updates through device management tools and the Microsoft Update Catalog.
