On September 23, reports emerged that Alibaba is intensifying its data center expansion efforts in Europe and the Middle East, as part of a broader initiative to advance its global infrastructure development, with a target capacity of 20 gigawatts. During the Cloud Town Conference held in Hangzhou on Wednesday, Alibaba executive Li Feifei revealed that over the next 12 months, Alibaba plans to establish its inaugural batch of cloud regions in Turkey, Finland, and the Netherlands. Additionally, the company will broaden its data center footprint in Malaysia, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Hong Kong, China. This strategic maneuver is designed to fortify localized cloud and AI service capabilities.

Presently, Alibaba's global cloud network already spans a diverse array of regions, stretching from Japan across Southeast Asia to the Middle East. In recent times, the company has inaugurated new facilities in Brazil and France, specifically tailored to deliver generative AI services to local enterprises. Li Feifei underscored the company's commitment, stating, "We are dedicated to collaborating closely with the global ecosystem to make AI more scalable, practical, and accessible for businesses worldwide."
