On September 22, Fitch Ratings reported that as the power consumption of artificial intelligence workloads increases, Japan's data center industry is entering a new phase. The power supply situation is having a growing impact on the development progress, site selection, and feasibility of data center projects in Japan. Tightening constraints on power and land resources in the Tokyo region are driving future development activities toward other more advantageous regions within Japan to meet the infrastructure construction and power demands of AI. Meanwhile, some urban development projects are facing resistance from local communities, increasing execution risks. Fitch also stated that government policies are trending toward supporting the deployment of digital infrastructure across a broader geographical area.
