According to individuals with knowledge of the situation, SB Energy, a data center developer backed by SoftBank, has decided to delay its initial public offering (IPO), which was originally planned for this month. The challenge arises as banks are finding it difficult to secure a sufficient number of investors willing to subscribe to the company's shares within the targeted price range. Earlier, Nvidia had pledged to subscribe to $1.5 billion worth of Class N common shares through a private placement prior to SB Energy's IPO, elevating its total investment in the company to $3 billion. Currently, SB Energy boasts a portfolio of photovoltaic power generation and battery energy storage assets. Moreover, it is in the process of developing a 9.2-gigawatt natural gas power plant in Ohio, specifically designed to supply power to AI data centers. Nevertheless, given that the majority of its significant projects are still under construction and its financial performance is heavily reliant on the success of key tenants like OpenAI, the IPO is encountering hurdles related to valuation and financing.
