Data from the China Electricity Council reveals that since the start of this year, new types of digital energy loads, such as internet data services and electric vehicle charging and battery swapping, have witnessed remarkable growth. Across the nation, the electricity consumption in the internet data services sector has surged past 60 billion kilowatt-hours, registering a year-on-year increase exceeding 40%. This figure far outstrips the total consumption for the entire year of 2024. With the advent of new quality productive forces, emerging industries, notably artificial intelligence, have emerged as the main catalysts for the steady growth in electricity consumption. The expansion of the AI industry has directly propelled the demand for electricity in data centers. Currently, the national average daily token invocation volume has witnessed a thousandfold increase compared to two years ago, with the demand for computing power continuing to escalate. By the end of July 2026, the total national intelligent computing capacity had reached 2.45 million PFLOPS, with the intelligent computing scale in the eight national computing hubs and three coordinated computing-electricity development zones accounting for over 85% of the national total.
