Google Photos has adjusted its trash retention rules. Previously, backed-up content could be retained for 60 days, while unbacked-up content was retained for 30 days. After the adjustment, all deleted photos and videos will only be retained in the trash for 30 days and will be permanently deleted if the period expires. This adjustment aims to save storage space on servers and user accounts, but it has little impact on users with subscriptions. The adjustment only involves the duration of retention in the trash and does not change the backup deletion mechanism. Deleting photos will synchronously remove content from related devices and channels such as Google Photos, but it will not delete copies on other platforms such as Google Drive. If users only need to hide photos, it is recommended to use the archive function.
