The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has unveiled a strategic plan, emphasizing that the domestic information and communication sector will give precedence to deploying next-generation network infrastructure. The plan outlines initiatives to commence 6G commercialization at an opportune time, expedite the research and development of core 6G technologies, propel technical trials forward, and develop essential 6G network equipment and smartphones. These efforts aim to bolster the autonomy and resilience of both industrial and supply chains. Additionally, the plan offers specific implementation directives for core network equipment and consumer terminals.
According to sources within the industry chain, it is anticipated that ordinary consumers will be able to purchase commercially available, mass-produced 6G smartphones only after 2030. Presently, a global unified standard for 6G has yet to be established. However, it is expected that a limited number of 6G prototypes will be accessible for testing by operators as early as 2027.
With the implementation of 6G technology as its central goal, this plan marks a significant transition for the domestic communication industry—from the widespread adoption of 5G to the pre-research and pre-commercialization phase of 6G. This strategic move encourages early positioning across the industrial chain and nurtures the emergence of novel application scenarios.
