The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has unveiled the '14th Five-Year Plan' for the Development of the Information and Communications Industry. This plan proposes upgrading networks in urban and hotspot areas to meet 'dual 10-gigabit' standards. It aims to enhance the coverage of 5G networks in critical scenarios, ensuring continuous coverage of evolved 5G (5G-A) networks in urban areas at or above the county level, and extending this coverage to key townships. The objective is to guarantee that urban hotspots achieve peak rates of 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) for downstream and 1 Gbps for upstream connections.

Furthermore, the plan outlines the timely launch of the 6G commercialization process. Concurrently, pilot projects for 10-gigabit optical networks will be initiated, with a view to gradually expanding their coverage. The 'Signal Upgrade' initiative will persist in its implementation to enhance the overall user experience.

The plan also advocates for extensive coverage and intelligent upgrades of mobile Internet of Things (IoT). It underscores the importance of deepening technological innovation and applications of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6), as well as advancing the systematic deployment of IPv6-only network stacks, in line with global digital transformation trends.
