On August 14, according to the data released by South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT on Friday, propelled by the continuous global investment in AI, South Korea's exports of information and communication technology (ICT) products witnessed a remarkable year-on-year surge of 140.6% in July. The export value soared to USD 53.4 billion, setting a new record for July and showing a significant increase from the USD 22.2 billion recorded during the same period last year. Concurrently, the imports of ICT products also experienced a year-on-year growth of 37.3%, reaching USD 18.3 billion, which contributed to a trade surplus of USD 35.1 billion. In terms of product categories, the robust demand for AI-related chips was the primary driver behind the semiconductor exports, which skyrocketed by 178.8% year-on-year to USD 41 billion. This marked the 17th consecutive month of growth for semiconductor exports. Additionally, exports of computers and communication equipment saw a substantial increase of 353.9%, amounting to USD 4.9 billion, while mobile phone exports grew by 62.6%, reaching USD 1.6 billion. When it comes to export destinations, South Korea's combined exports to China and Hong Kong, China, surged by 194.7%. Exports to the United States also increased significantly by 187%. Furthermore, exports to Vietnam, the European Union, and India experienced growth rates of 115.7%, 202%, and 128.2%, respectively.
