In the cumulative updates KB5101650 for Windows 11 and Windows 10 rolled out in July 2026, Microsoft officially bid farewell to the 'Picture Password' login feature for new users. This feature had been a part of the Windows ecosystem since the Windows 8 days. The change was implemented concurrently in build versions 26100.8875 (24H2) and 26200.8875 (25H2). For those users who had already set up a picture password, they are still able to keep using it. However, if the picture password is deleted, disabled, or was never set up in the first place, it cannot be re-established. Microsoft advises users to transition to alternative login methods, such as Windows Hello PIN, facial recognition, or fingerprint recognition, which offer enhanced security and convenience.
