Microsoft has announced significant adjustments to the Windows 11 update mechanism, introducing four improvements based on user feedback: a new 'Update Later' button in settings, support for indefinitely pausing updates, no more forced update installations during shutdown or restart, and more detailed update information display. Currently, these changes have been rolled out to users in the Beta channel (Build 26220.8282) and the Canary and Dev experimental channels (Build 26300.8289). Microsoft stated that the core goal of these changes is to compress the monthly update experience into just one restart and to uniformly coordinate the delivery pace of driver, .NET framework, and firmware updates. Going forward, monthly security updates, urgent out-of-band updates, and optional non-security updates will all be consolidated under the available updates section in settings, allowing users to view and manage all pending installations at a glance.
